“During the first year, some lectures are done on Saturdays”, the course administrator informed Tara. She was a Nursing Student about to embark on a Social Welfare study program. This study program, was conducted in the evenings, via UWI School of Continuing Studies. Tara was not aware that during the first year, a large chunk of the program was taught on Saturdays.
“I would not be able to attend classes on Saturdays, I go to church on that day. I am a Seventh Day Adventist”, was her reply.
Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy.
Six days shall thou labor and do all thy work:
But the Seventh Day is the sabbath of The Lord thy God: in it thou shall not do any work, thou nor thy son, nor thy daughter thy manservant nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.
For in six days The Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that in them is, and rested on the seventh day; wherefore The Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.
Exodus 20:8-11
“This is only for the first year. During the second and third years, all courses are taught during the week”.
“Would someone be allowed to tape the lectures?”.
“No, that is against the rules. Students must attend ninety percent of classes to successfully complete the program. You can go away and think about what we have discussed “, he advised.
Tara went away, not to think, but to Pray.
Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God.
Philippians 4:6
When she returned, the course administrator’s answers were the same and so was hers. However he had an alternative.Tara was given the option to pursue the, Higher Certificate in Psychology program. This alternative pleased her and she accepted it.
Three years later, Tara was the grateful owner of two tierary level qualifications. Each one complementing the other. It was also the beginning of a successful professional partnership. This partnership allowed her to communicate effectively and to respond appropriately to all patients needs.
Trust in The Lord with all thine heart: and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.
